Inside the roofless walls of Appuldurcombe House, Jo and Fred said their vows beneath open sky, sunlight pouring through bare beams onto a crowd packed shoulder to shoulder within the old stone shell.
Out on the lawn, a sailcloth tent rose above long oak feasting tables dressed with hand-blocked paisley napkins in mustard, terracotta and ink, gold cutlery on crisp white plates, and kraft name cards weighted with little cockle shells. Trailing ivy, white garden roses and daisies ran between tapers in clear glass bottles. Gazpacho shots lined the canapé station, steaks seared over live fire, and a three-tier buttercream cake, studded with candied orange and pastel wildflowers, leaned into a tumble of pink and butter-yellow blooms.
As the light softened over cedar and pink blossom, the party drifted back inside the brick ruins, gathering around an open firepit beneath strings of festoon. Napkins flew above heads in a roar of cheers as Jo and Fred kissed beneath the tent, a day of long tables, open fire and golden light, held in a place that for one evening felt entirely theirs.
